2 What is a cyclone?

3 categories of cyclones
Category 1:traveling Less than 125km per hour Negligible house damage. Damage to crops ,trees and caravans. Draft may drag moorings.Etc. cyclone Mitchell Category 2:traveling km per hour Minor house damage.Significant damage to signs, trees and caravans .Heavy damage to some crops .Risk of power failure. Small craft may break moorings.Etc. Cyclone Emily Category 3:traveling km per hour some roof and structural damage, caravans destroyed. Likely power failure. Etc. cyclone Winifred Category 4: traveling km per hour significant roofing loss and structural damage.Wide spread power loss. Etc. cyclone Mackay Category 5:Extremly dangerous with widespread destruction,Etc. cyclone yasi.

4 What is the effect of a cyclone?
It really depends on the category of the cyclone so category 1 would be not so disastrous and not so expensive repairs but category 5 on the other hand would have a life threating ,dangerous expensive effect for example cyclone Yasi (2011) (category 5) claimed 103 lives but the damage cost around $3.6 billion dollars for repair. Although cyclone Tracy (1974) (category 4) claimed 66 life's Cost $837 million in damage.

5 Where/when do cyclones occur the most?
Australia Cyclones originate at sea over waters that are warm. Cyclones are most likely to occur in areas near the equator where waters are warmer and there is a temperate climate. Cyclone season occurs around the summer season (November-April in Australia) Tropical cyclones also occur in various parts of the Pacific Ocean, and can affect coastal regions of Mexico, south-east Asia, north-east Australia and the south Pacific islands.

6 worst cyclones 2011 - CYCLONE YASI (Category 5)
On 3 February, Cyclone Yasi - a massive 1,450km in diameter- crossed the Queensland coast at about 25km/h and with wind gusts of 285km/h (though no equipment was able to directly measure  the winds). Thousands of people were evacuated from Cairns after fears the city could take a direct hit. In the end, Yasi's path had Mission Beach, near Cardwell, and the World Heritage-listed Hinchinbrook Island in mind. It flattened sugar cane and banana crops, huge areas of trees and many buildings, though no one was killed. The cyclone was so powerful that it didn't complete disperse until it reached the center of Australia, near Alice Springs. It's estimated Cyclone Yasi cost $3.6 billion of damage - the most costly cyclone in Australia to date CYCLONE MAHINA (Category 5) More than 400 people perished after Cyclone Mahina hit Bathurst Bay on 4 March The cyclone is considered to be the worst natural disaster in Australia's history. One hundred of the people who died were on pearling fleet vessels, while another 100 were local Aborigines. CYCLONE TRACY (Category 4) Tracy, a Category 4, struck Darwin in the Northern Territory on Christmas Eve It remains Australia's most destructive with winds of around 250km/h. Seventy-one people were killed, and many thousands injured. Of a population of 43,000, more than 25,000 were left homeless, according to the Australian government. CYCLONE ALTHEA (Category 4) Severe Tropical Cyclone Althea was at the time considered to be one of the strongest cyclones to affect the Queensland coast. There were three deaths in Townsville and damage costs in the region reached $50 million (1971 value). Many houses were damaged or destroyed, including 200 Housing Commission homes. On Magnetic Island 90 per cent of the houses were damaged or destroyed.
