The key objective was to control the seas and stop the enemy’s supplies.
The war was dominated by submarine warfare, the invention or torpedoes and mines.
Submarines even laid mines in harbours to catch enemy ships by surprise.
the Battle of Jutland was not successful for either side – Britain lost 11 ships and Germany 14. There was a lot of confusion and both sides claimed they won – overall, Germany did not manage to remove the blockade.
U-boats: They started off attacking allied warships, but then when the allies could protect themselves they went for merchant ships.
