Abolitionists/ people who wanted to abolish slavery in the south for good.

3 B is for Bleeding Kansas
When southerners and northerners moved to Kansas to vote under popular sovereignty.

4 C is for conductors People who helped enslaved people escape to the north.

5 D is for Draft A selection of men chosen to fight in the war.

6 E is for Emancipation Proclamation
A document stated that all enslaved people in the south were to be freed.

7 F is for Frederick Douglass
He escaped to the north and published The North Star.

8 G is for Gettysburg Address
The speech that Lincoln gave to dedicate to the Gettysburg Cemetery.

9 H is for Harriet Tubman She is a famous conductor and a Union spy.

10 I is for industry Is what the north depends on.

11 J is for Jim Crow Laws Allowed segregation in the south.

12 K is for KU KLUX KLAN Terrorized African Americans.

13 L is for Lincoln Lincoln was the President of the Union and did not support slavery.

Missouri admitted as a slave state and Massachusetts became a free state.

15 N is for North The North also called the Union, were against slavery.

It changed peoples opinions about the war. It was now also about slavery and freedom.

When Lee ordered Pickett to charge the Union lines.

The time after the Civil War when they were rebuilding the south.

21 T is for Tariffs Special taxes on goods coming into the United States.

A passage way for enslaved people to escape to the north.

23 V is for Vicksburg A town that the Union took over and helped them to control Richmond.

24 W is for Western Movement
Do to western movement the whites slaved owners had to buy more enslaved people to harvest more cotton.

25 X is for xanthorrhiza A medicine taken from a root that is used as a tonic in Columbi

26 Y is for Yankee A nickname for the North.

27 Z is for Zouave A group of people recognized by their bright colored uniforms.
