2 [Multae viae in Italiā erant et sunt.]
[Multae viae Romanae erant bonae.]

3 [Via Appia in Italiā erat et est.]
The Appian Way was and is in Italy. [Olim Via Appia erat via Romana.] Once the Appian Way was a Roman road. [Non nova est] [sed fama eius est magna,] [quod longa et bona via est.] It isn’t new, but its fame is big, because it’s a long and good road.

4 [Multae viae Americanae olim erant malae,] [sed nunc bonae sunt.]
Many American roads were once bad, but now they’re good. Via dura est. Via bona est.

5 [In Italiā et in Americā bonas vias laudamus.]
In Italy and America, we praise good roads. [Vias malas non amamus.] We don’t like bad roads. [Vias duras amatis?] Do you like hard roads?

7 There were many carts and horses on Roman roads.

8 [Agricolae in Viā Appiā erant.]
Farmers were on the Appian Way. [Servi magni et parvi in viis erant.] There were big and little servants on the roads.

9 [Ubi nunc equi sunt?] Where are the horses now? [Ubi carri sunt?] Where are the carts? [Nunc servi non sunt.] Now there are no servants.

10 [Agricola carrum bonum parat.]
The farmer is preparing a good cart. [Agricola carrum laudat,] [quod novus et magnus est.] The farmer is praising the cart because it’s big and new.

11 = + [Puellae carros non amant,] [quod duri sunt.]
[Puellae equos amant,] [quod boni sunt.] = +

12 [Agricola equos amat,] [quod in terrā laborant.]
[Servum malum non laudat,] [quod non laborat.]
