Common Terms Express Setup – Web based initial setup for Stratix 8000/8300 switches STP- Spanning-Tree Protocol MST – Multi-Instance Spanning-Tree Protocol PVST – Per-Vlan Spanning-Tree Protocol BPDU – Bridge Protocol Data Unit Portfast – allows port to skip listening/learning phase Auto-MDIX – Medium Dependent Interface Cross-Over VLAN – A virtual LAN, a group of hosts that communicate as if they were attached to the same broadcast domain, regardless of their physical location Copyright © 2011 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All rights reserved.

Terms Continued REP- Resilient Ethernet Protocol ( Cisco Proprietary ) Ability to create a Switch Level Ring topology DLR – Device Level Ring Not same as Switch Level Ring Not supported in Stratix Managed switches Copyright © 2011 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All rights reserved.

9 Stratix 6000 Initial Configuration
The Stratix 6000 has a default address of Configure Network Interface on pc to be on the /24 network Open web browser and navigate to Leave the username blank and the password is PASSWORD Copyright © 2011 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All rights reserved.

Express Setup for the 8000/8300 Make sure that at least one switch Ethernet port is available for Express Setup. Configure Network Interface on Computer to obtain an address ( DHCP ) Power up switch Will be ready to begin the express setup when the EIP Mod and Setup LED is blinking green. Press and release the Express setup button Connect to blinking port ( Typically FastEthernet Port 1 ) Attempt to access any web address ( re-direct ) Default password is switch with 12.2(52) and greater – blank earlier Copyright © 2011 Rockwell Automation, Inc. Common Issues Dual NICs / Wireless and NIC Disable second NIC / Wireless or Manually enter ip ( ) Internet Explorer 8 and above Enter something for username ( a ) DHCP timeout vs Spanning-tree learning mode Command prompt on computer ( ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew ) Other devices connected Remove any other DHCP servers ( disconnect all other devices from switch ) VPN software / Firewall Software Disable VPN / Firewall Software Express Setup timeout – Do not Firmware upgrade Copyright © 2011 Rockwell Automation, Inc. 12 Express setup parameters
Management Vlan and IP Address/Subnet mask Password – must be different than default / blank CIP Vlan and IP Address/Subnet mask Hostname Date and Time Copyright © 2011 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All rights reserved.

13 Configuration methods for Stratix
Webpage ( 6000, 8000 and 8300 ) RSLogix 5000 – Profile ( 6000, 8000, 8300 ) CLI – Command Line Interface ( 8000 and 8300 only ) * Last place configured from “wins” Copyright © 2011 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All rights reserved.

16 Common Smartport Issues
MAC Address security set to 1 Embedded Switch Technology ( Multiport Automation Device ) VMWare (Virtual Desktop for Automation ) Unmanaged switches ( Multiport Automation Device ) Switch for Automation to Device for Automation Switch for Automation to Stratix 6000 prior to Firmware 0.53 Router for Automation Port-mirroring Set to None between configurations Copyright © 2011 Rockwell Automation, Inc. Other Common Issues: MST and PVST+ Not compatible 8000/8300 defaults to MST 6000 does not support MST Cisco default is PVST Autonegotiate vs Fixed Speed and Duplex Must match ETAP / DLR configurations Smartport of None Copyright © 2011 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All rights reserved.
