1 SOIL CONSERVATION AND STEWARDSHIP
October 23, 2017

2 1. How do we form igneous rocks? 2. How do we form sedimentary rocks?
Science Starters 1. How do we form igneous rocks? 2. How do we form sedimentary rocks? 3. How is a metamorphic rock formed?

3 Targets : 6.e.2.4 – SOIL STEWARDSHIP
1. I can explain some ways soil is conserved 2. continue working on my project on soil stewardship

4 CROP ROTATION is a system for growing several different crops in planned succession on the same field, including at least one soil-conserving crop such as perennial hay.

5 CONTOUR FARMING Contour farming is growing crops "on the level" across or perpendicular to a slope rather than up and down the slope.

6 Terrace A terrace is an earthen embankment, ridge or ridge-and-channel built across a slope (on the contour) to intercept runoff water and reduce soil erosion.

7 Windbreaks Field windbreaks are linear plantings of trees/shrubs designed to reduce wind speed in open fields, preventing soil erosion and protecting adjacent crops from wind damage.
