2. Hand Separation
The separation of a mechanical mixture by hand or by the use of a magnet.

3. Filtration
The separation of a mechanical mixture composed of a liquid and an un-dissolved solid. After separation, the liquid is called the filtrate and the solid is called the residue.

The separation of a solution by boiling off a liquid, leaving a solid behind.

6. Distillation
Separation of a solution by boiling off a liquid, then condensing it in a separate container, leaving the other substance (liquid or solid) behind.

7. Solvent Extraction
Separation of a mechanical mixture by dissolving one solid in a liquid and leaving the other behind, OR
Separation of a solution by adding an immiscible liquid that dissolves one component of the solution but not the other.
