In general, these chromophores are rich in terms of their photophysics, combining properties of traditional coordination compounds and organometallics within the same structure. The excited-state properties of these compounds emanate from charge-transfer processes between the metal center and diimine ligand that are strongly influenced by the electronic nature of the acetylide ligands. N P t 1 2 3 Platinum(II)-containing conjugated metallacycles are also emerging as a new class of structurally and electronically appealing metal-organic materials. Although numerous metallacyclynes have been produced by a variety of research groups, their photophysical properties remain largely unexplored. In the hope of coupling metallacycle electronic structures to charge transfer processes in platinum acetylides, we recently designed this molecule and investigated the photophysics in comparison of model complexes with the ultimate goal of utilizing their light-absorption and electron transfer properties for solar energy conversion. 77K RT 0 ms 40 ms 77K
