I need to have a point on the line (x1,y1) and the slope, m, of the line.
Remember how to find slope?

2. Setting up Point-Slope Form
Write the equation of a line with slope of 5/4 and passing through (0, 5).

3. Setting up Point-Slope Form
Write the equation of the line passing through (-2, 5) and (4, -3).

4. Slope-Intercept Form of a Line
We discussed this yesterday. I need to have the slope of the line and know what the y-intercept is.
Start with point-slope and put in the y-int of (0, b).

5. Setting up Slope-Intercept Form
Write the equation of the line with slope -2 that passes through the point (-2, 8).

6. Setting up Slope-Intercept Form
Write the equation of the line with a y-int of (0, 4) and an x-intercept of (-1, 0).

7. Graphing from the equation
Slope-Intercept Form is the easiest to graph! We can see a point to start on (somewhere on the y-axis) and the slope that tells how to get to the next point, and the point after that, etc.
Steps:
Plot the y-intercept
Starting there do your rise and run from your slope.

8. Find the slope and the y-intercept of the line with the equation 2(y – 1) = 3x +2 and graph.

9. Are lines represented by 3x – 2y = 4 and
6x = 4(y + 1) parallel?

10. Are lines represented by 3x + 2y = 6 and
2x – 3y = 6 perpendicular?

11. Write the equation of the line that is parallel to the line y = 8x – 3 and passes through the origin.

12. Write the equation of the line that is perpendicular to the line y = 8x – 3 and passes through 2, 4.

13. General Form of a Linear Eq. Ax + By = C A and B cannot both be 0.
Slope-intercept Form of a Line
Y = mx + b
The slope is m, and the y-intercept is (0, b)
Point-slope form of a line
y – y1 = m(x – x1)
The slope is m, and the line passes through (x1, y1)
A horizontal Line
y = b
The slope is 0, and the
y-intercept is (0, b)
A Vertical Line
x = a
There is no defined slope, and the x-intercept is (a, 0)
