10 5. zygote- Result of fertilization & first cell of developing offspring (baby) This stage of development lasts approx 3 weeks

12 6. implantation- Process when zygote becomes implanted in lining of uterus of female mammals

14 7. uterus- Hollow, muscular pelvic organ where zygote begins developing

16 8. mitosis- Cell division
Parent cells divide into daughter cells each with 46 chromosomes

18 9. embryo- Name given to developing baby between weeks 3 & 8 of pregnancy

20 10. fetus- Name given to developing baby after 8 weeks of gestation until birth

23 11. Full term- Fetus is fully developed & could survive outside of mom’s uterus 35-40 weeks gestation
