1 Goals To draw atoms in 2 different ways

2 Bohr Models We can use the periodic table to draw Bohr Models.
These are also referred to as Planetary Models

3 Bohr Models In these models we represent the p+, e-, & n0
We already know that p+ and n0 are located in the nucleus at the center.

4 Bohr Models The electrons are located in the electron cloud in energy levels. 1st level holds max 2 e- 2nd level holds max 8 e- 3rd level holds max 18 e- 4th level holds max 32 e-

5 Lewis (Dot) Diagrams Electron dot diagrams are structures that show ONLY the valence electrons as dots Valence electrons are: Electrons located in the outer energy shell of an atom

6 Lewis (Dot) Diagrams put the chemical symbol in the middle
To draw the diagram: put the chemical symbol in the middle draw the electrons as dots around the symbol. One electron at a time (start at the top) Only can pair up AFTER one electron is placed on each side Move clockwise.

7 Part 3: Periodic Table Basics
Complete cards w/ diagrams Color cards according to key on front page Cut cards out and place according to directions Answer questions on following page
