This class was specifically designed to address the complex needs of virtualized environments and to dramatically increase virtual data center ROI. StoreServ storage arrays are the fastest and most efficient single-system arrays on the market. They are sold as the and models. The has a four-node capable backplane and the has an eight-node capable backplane. All 3PAR arrays use the same software architecture, same management console, same remote replication software, and so on, providing one architecture that spans the range from mid-range to high end. As you can see, there are various types of nodes, connectivity, drives, and capacity in this portfolio. The point of all this is not for you to win on outstanding specs, but to provide a highly available and highly scalable single system that your customers can grow into, not out of. These products can be widely shared by many different applications. Autonomic Replication Groups
Greatly reduce operational cost and administrative time New Target Volume Created Autonomically Simplify, automate and expedite storage replication configuration Configure Replication Group to match a Common Provisioning Group Replication policy applied automatically to new Volumes Target volume on secondary storage created automatically Available initially in CLI (IMC support will follow) Increased agility Online increase in Source Volume size leads to automatic corresponding increase in Target Volume size New Source Volume Replicated Provisioning Group Replicated Provisioning Group Primary 3PAR Storage Secondary 3PAR Storage Autonomic Replication 3PAR Autonomic Replication is new software designed to enhance data center agility and efficiency when provisioning storage that is to be replicated on 3PAR Storage. Building on the foundation of 3PAR Rapid Provisioning and 3PAR Autonomic Groups, Autonomic Replication enables users to simplify, automate, and expedite the storage replication configuration. Autonomic Replication also increases agility because changes are handled autonomically at a subsystem level. When the Source Volume size is grown online, the Target Volume size is grown automoatically with a corresponding increase in size. You can associate a pair of CPG's with a remote copy group, so when a VV is to be added to the remote copy group, the target VV can be automatically created on the 2ndy array, the VV would be of the right size and type. This for the initial admitting of the VV to the RC group, additionally growing the VV on the primary would accomplish the same on the 2ndry.

Online FAT to THIN or THIN to FAT (TP DO)
Ability to convert from a thin-provisioned volume to a fully-provisioned volume (or vice versa) without requiring an offline transition. Fat-to-thin saves space for volumes that are sparsely consumed. Thin-to-fat saves on thin provisioning license usage for volumes that are mostly or completely allocated. Licenses required – Thin Provisioning*, Dynamic Optimization In previous releases, customers had to perform an offline transition in order to change the provisioning attributes of a volume. This used the legacy physical copy where the destination was offline. Upon completion of the copy, all the VLUNs and applications had to be manually moved from the old VV to the new one This Is a dynamic opt. enhancement. Introducing 3PAR File Services with HP StoreEasy NAS
Efficient 25000 Users Best in class for windows Integrated Array Management Thin Provisioning & Deduplication Secure Intelligently identify and restrict access to Business Critical files Highly Available Continuous Availability Multi-Terabyte Volumes Automated Disaster Recovery HP StoreEasy NAS is Efficient, Secure and Highly Available. A single StoreEasy file server can serve clients concurrently. It offers the best experience for windows clients, but is also capable of serving files to Linux/Unix users. StoreEasy integrates with storage arrays for the common provisioning of LUNs and file shares from the same user interface, and can also automatically leverage array features like thin provisioning. It also comes with built in block level deduplication to realize capacity efficiencies. StoreEasy has the unique ability to intelligently identify business critical files automatically based on their content and restrict access to authorized users. NAS platforms today are increasingly important - not just because of the explosion in unstructured data; but because in addition to sharing documents, they are also being used for virtualization and applications for medical imaging and databases. This means that a NAS platform is required to be available all the time – and StoreEasy delivers an extremely high level of availability. You can reliably deploy multi-terabyte volumes and when coupled with some HP arrays you can fail over to a second data center automatically in the event of a disaster. "Continuously Available" SMB 3 enhances the reliability, availability, manageability, and performance of file servers and enables customers to deploy storage for application workloads such as Hyper-V and Microsoft SQL Server.
67
HP 3PAR File Services with StoreEasy is Efficient
Efficient | Secure | Highly Available Let us look at how StoreEasy is an efficient NAS platform in a little more detail…
68
Manage Storage Efficiently
StoreEasy NAS Gateways are tightly integrated with HP 3Par Easily Provision Provision LUNs on 3Par from the Windows GUI. File shares and storage for applications via SMB, NFS, iSCSI. Manage a group of file servers from a single interface Leverage Array Technologies Automatically reclaim storage on Thin Provisioned LUNs ODX assisted file copy over SMB is 6.5 times* faster than traditional copying. The StoreEasy Server Manager can not only manage multiple StoreEasy file servers as a group, but it is also able to provision file shares and volumes on 3Par via SMI-S which runs natively on the 3Par controller – all from a single management interface. It automatically identifies thinly provisioned volumes and can alert the administrator when thresholds are reached. When a user deletes a file on a share, storage on the underlying 3Par volume is also automatically released to enable thin persistence. When a user copies files between shares, StoreEasy can offload the copy operation to the 3Par array which is orders of magnitude faster and saves network bandwidth. This is especially useful for copying large files such as database log files and videos. Windows Server 2012 deployed on Proliant servers or in VMs will also have the same integration with 3Par as StoreEasy Gateways have. Manage File Shares and SAN Arrays from the same management interface: StoreEasy Server Manager can not only manage & monitor multiple Windows Storage Server 2012 file servers, but it is also able to provision storage on SAN Storage Arrays like HP 3Par, via the industry standard SMI-S – all from a single management UI. 3Par runs SMI-S natively on the controller. Easy Provisioning of file shares for heterogeneous clients, such as Linux, UNIX and Windows Clients or even for Applications such as SQL Server, Hyper-V or VMWare. StoreEasy supports a variety of protocols out of the box, including iSCSI, CIFS/ SMB 1, SMB 2.x, SMB 3.0, NFSv3, NFSv4.1, FTP(s), HTTP(s) and WebDAV. Array Integration Allocate less data and reclaim storage automatically with Thin Provisioning integration that provides standardized notifications when storage thresholds are reached, and releases storage automatically when it is no longer needed. Offloaded Data Transfer (ODX) enables protocol agnostic, storage array assisted data transfer (conceptually similar to Vmware VAAI) which is orders of magnitude faster, practically eliminates load on the file server and saves network bandwidth. It can be used for VM Migration, general bulk data movement (such as Large Database Files, HD Video, etc.) *Results depend on network bandwidth, server and array models, drive types, numbers and speeds,
69
Capacity Efficiency with Deduplication
Home Folders 30% Savings* Variable sized chunks ( KB) for high dedup ratios Can process ~20 MB of data / sec Integrates with Branch Cache for faster downloads General File Shares 64% Savings* Software Dev. Shares 67% Savings* Virtual Hard Disk Library 82% Savings* StoreEasy comes with built in block level deduplication which can result in significant capacity saving. Depending on the types of files, you can achieve dedup ratios between 2:1 and 20:1 Scale and performance. Deduplication can run on multiple volumes simultaneously without affecting other workloads on the server (Deduplication scope is a Volume). Low impact on the server workloads is maintained by throttling the CPU and memory resources that are consumed. If the server gets very busy, deduplication can stop completely. In addition, administrators have the flexibility to run data deduplication jobs at any time, set schedules for when data deduplication should run, and establish file selection policies. Reliability and data integrity. When data deduplication is applied, the integrity of the data is maintained. Windows Server 2012 uses checksum, consistency, and identity validation to ensure data integrity. For all metadata and the most frequently referenced data, data deduplication maintains redundancy to ensure that the data is recoverable in the event of data corruption. Bandwidth efficiency with BranchCache. Through integration with BranchCache, the same optimization techniques are applied to data transferred over the WAN to a branch office. The result is faster file download times and reduced bandwidth consumption. * Capacity savings by Microsoft IT
70
3PAR File Services with StoreEasy is Fast
StoreEasy scales to support up to 25,000* concurrent users on a single file server. SMB 3.0 is a game changer! Enables file, application storage to be delivered over ubiquitous Ethernet Automatically uses multiple network paths and aggregates bandwidth StoreEasy natively delivers the new SMB 3.0 protocol which not only really fast, but so reliable that it can be used to host Hyper-V VMs and SQL Server databases. So to summarize, StoreEasy is Efficient – users and SMB 3.0 for performance efficiencies, integrates with 3Par Arrays for operational efficiencies and delivers capacity efficiencies with deduplication. *Number of concurrent users is based on home folders workload simulated by Microsoft File Server Capacity Tool
71
HP 3PAR File Services with StoreEasy is Secure
Efficient | Secure | Highly Available Now lets look at how StoreEasy secures your files…
72
Built-in Protection for Data at Rest or in Flight
StoreEasy is Secure Built-in Protection for Data at Rest or in Flight End-to-End Data Encryption SMB 3.0 encryption secures data in-flight. BitLocker Drive Encryption protects your data at rest. No more add-on solution costs. Run Anti-virus of your choice directly on StoreEasy NAS No additional hardware needed. Centrally Managed Access Policies Protect data based on its business value, no matter where it is physically located. StoreEasy is a secure NAS platform with built in encryption for data in flight and for data at rest. This means that files are encrypted when they reside on the NAS, and encrypted while they are being served out to clients over SMB 3.0. You can run practically any antivirus software directly on the NAS, and the most interesting security feature, is the ability to protect business critical files via centrally managed policies.
73
Secure your files without performance impact
Non-Windows NAS Solutions require external Anti- Virus Servers: Performance impact on file access Additional Windows Servers need to be managed Limited choice of Anti-Virus applications HP StoreEasy NAS Solution can run the Anti-Virus software of your choice directly: Simplicity & Performance File serving with AV Scanning 4x faster* than equivalent competitive NAS AV HP SAN Array StoreEasy 3830 Gateways StoreEasy 5530 AV Non-Windows NAS products connect to external Anti-Virus servers over the Ethernet network using ICAP protocol which results in 1. Performance inefficiency as files need to be sent over network to be scanned. 2. Addition hardware is needed to run the Anti-Virus Servers, and it needs to be managed. 3. Only certain Antivirus applications are supported by the NAS for connectivity via ICAP. (StoreEasy, since runs Windows & supports all). HP StoreEasy can run any Antivirus application directly on the controllers themselves so it is simple to manage, and much faster. 4xFaster* A major German auto manufacturer required a new file serving environment for their virtual factory planning application with ~ 60MB/s SMB performance: The FAS3000 (with Metrocluster) solution of NetApp maxed out at ~47MB/s with file sizes of 64MB. Main cause was the fact that virus scanning needs to be performed on an external server for every read/write access. The HP Solution (X3800 G2 + EVA6400) was 4x faster compared to native NetAPP SMB. Result: We sold X3800 G2 and EVA6400 into an environment where EVA was not on the vendor list (120k€) & potentially opened a door for additional EVA storage sales into the account. Note: Netapp in Cluster-Mode only does support running McAffee and Sophos within Data ONTAP, but these are special versions of the antivirus application (requiring different licences). Also if the customer does not run McAffee or Sophos, he will need those external AntiVirus servers. Source: * Based on a customer PoC

Manage data based on its business value
Identify Data Control Access Audit Access Protect Data …across all file your file servers The need to secure leakage of business critical and personal data e.g. engineering designs, patient history etc. presents a major challenge for businesses and corporate IT. But IT Admins are not librarians. They manage the NAS, but have little insight into which files are business critical. StoreEasy can not only automatically identify and classify such files based on their content or attributes, but it also and enables content owners - who understand the value of the data to the business - to classify their files themselves. Administrators can then make sure sensitive files are protected based on their business value no matter where they go, through centrally managed access policies. They can also audit access and find out for example who accessed files tagged as sensitive in the last three months? Let me give you a couple of examples to explain how this works in practice

Centrally Managed Access Policies
Finance Mgr. tags folder as “sensitive” Quarterly Results Finance Dept. & CxOs have access automatic tagging & encryption of new files Quarterly Results access denied for unauthorized user Finance User Sales Rep. ed document keeps RMS info # automatically tagged “high impact” Credit Card Numbers Public Share sensitive info stored on share Centrally configured policy restricts access Credit Card Numbers Unauthorized User can’t even see the file Public Share # Scenario 1: (start from the left) The Finance Dept. Manager (Content Owner) manually tags the share containing quarterly financial results with the tag “Sensitive”. As the content owner, he is best placed to determine if the data stored in this folder is sensitive or not. Once the folder is tagged with “Sensitive” all files that are already stored in folder and all new files are automatically tagged as “Sensitive”. A centrally configured access policy restricts access to objects tagged as “Sensitive” to a specific group of users i.e. “Finance Dept.” and “CxOs.” Now files are access protected on the file server, but what if it leaves the file server? An additionally the Central Access Policy RMS encrypts Office files that are tagged “Sensitive” so that even if a file moves out of that folder, it still keeps the “Sensitive” tag, and if someone who has access to “Sensitive” files s it to someone who doesn’t, RMS encryption won’t let them open it. Note: Non-MS Office files can be protected with RMS with 3rd party solutions. Ditto for non-windows mobile devices iPhones, blackberry etc. Source: Scenario 2: (start from the left) When a file with a credit card number is copied to a public share, the automated File Classification Infrastructure technology automatically classifies the file as “high impact”. Centrally configured policies restrict access to files that are tagged “high impact.” The centrally configured policies are enforced via group policy across all file servers in the managed environment. Having Access Based Enumeration enabled, a technology that hides files from users that do not have the appropriate privileges to read a file, a user not authorized to access “high impact” data won’t even see the file… even though it is on a public share.
