2 Figure 1 Compensatory overtake of the sensory-motor cortex in people born with one hand. Hahamy et al. find that the typical hand area of the sensorimotor cortex homunculus in people born with one hand is activated by multiple body-parts, including the residual arm, lips and feet, which are used by the one-handers to compensate for their disability [3].
