43 The Prodigal Prophet Jonah 1:1-3

44 The book of Jonah teaches us that . . .
1. A simple story can be filled with serious truth. 2. We cannot limit the love of the heart of a missionary God. 3. It is possible to be unbelieving believer.

45 4. The grace of God is deeper and wider than you could ever imagine.
5. Obedience should be a delight and disobedience is dangerous. 6. There is a continual battle between two kingdoms.

46 “For the love of God controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him for who for their sake died and was raised.” - Roman 5:14-15

47 Will I live for something bigger than myself?
7. Even disobedient Old Testament prophets can get props from Jesus and even point us to Him.

48 Disobedience defined . . . 1. It begins with the word “but”. 2. It will seem like the right thing and it may be an easy thing to do at the moment. 3. It is costly.

49 “When you run from the Lord you never get to where you are going, and you always pay your own fare. But when you go the Lord’s way you always get to where you are going, and He pays the fare.” - Donald Grey Barnhouse

50 4. It is a downward in direction.
5. It is a desire to flee from the presence of God. “But why do call me, ‘Lord, Lord’, and do not do the things that I say.’” - Luke 6:49

51 Why did Jonah disobey? 1. Jonah was content with the status quo. 2. Jonah had a heart problem.

52 A statement and a time of self-examination . . .
1. God often calls us to do hard things. 2. Our comfort does not concern God as much as building His kingdom.

54 My hope is built on nothing less But wholly lean on Jesus' name.
THE SOLID ROCK (#511) Verse 1: My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood And righteousness; I dare not trust The sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus' name.

55 All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand.
Chorus: On Christ, The solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand.

56 I rest on His unchanging grace; In ev'ry high and stormy gale
Verse 2: When darkness seems To hide His face, I rest on His unchanging grace; In ev'ry high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil.

57 All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand.
Chorus: On Christ, The solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand.

58 He then is all my hope and stay.
Verse 3: His oath, His covenant, His blood Support me In the whelming flood; When all around My soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay.

59 All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand.
Chorus: On Christ, The solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand.

60 Oh, may I then in Him be found;
When He shall come With trumpet sound, Oh, may I then in Him be found; Dressed in His Righteousness alone, Faultless to stand Before the throne. Verse 4:

61 All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand.
Chorus: On Christ, The solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand.
