1 SESSION 10.1 Latest developments with TUFMAN
Seventh Tuna Data Workshop (TDW-7) April SPC, Noumea, New Caledonia

2 Outline TUFMAN Recent developments and status of TUFMAN Future plans
Regional TUFMAN Training Workshop TUF-CES, a new reporting tool (as per slide)

3 Recent developments and status of TUFMAN
Current version is 6.27 Was 6.18 last TDW 19 installations PNG and Tokelau installed in 2012, PNG as a trial All Pacific Island countries have TUFMAN on a proper server, with daily backups (as per slide)

4 Recent developments Many performance enhancements by moving queries and functions to the SQL server Reports Relinking Reconciliation New and modified reports: New licensing report 5e Modified license reports 6a and 6b New catch and effort report 16 (Monthly vessel activity by area) New catch and effort report 17 (Vessel activity by tima and area) Modified Catch and effort reports 2 and 3 (as per slide)

5 Recent developments Interface enhancements – new filters
Vessel trip track added to logsheet detail and logsheet summary forms, and added the VMS track to the map. Added new ‘Authorisation to Fish’ permits, in the National Fleet module Added ‘copy only’ functionality for travelling copies Added support for PS for port sampling monitoring report and port unloading summary report. Added support for ‘UVI’ for vessels. Various other enhancements and fixes. (as per slide)

6 TUFMAN – Future Plans Integration with the FFA National IMS Portal
Revised reporting system The way reports are done will be revised so as to make the reports easier to use but more flexible Reports optimised to run faster Reporting done via the IMS Portal New Mapping system A new mapping interface is planned that will no longer use MapInfo but will generate embedded maps that are interactive (i.e. you can change parameters, such as year, while viewing the map and it will change to show data for the new year). Also the possibility to add or remove data sources (for example the choice to add or remove logsheet trip tracks, VMS tracks, position reports to a map) Addition of new mapping reports that use Google Earth (as per slide)

7 TUFMAN – Future Plans Automation of linking, reconciliation, backups etc by a ‘TUFMAN maintenance application’ running on the server New tools to view the overall status of the system, via TUFMAN and / or the National IMS portal Status and maintenance communications via the cloud, for better off-site maintenance by SPC Steps towards using Master reference tables ... (as per slide)

8 TUFMAN Training Workshop
Funded by JTF Dedicated TUFMAN training workshop held in December 2012, at SPC Noumea 1 participant was funded for each member country with some extra participants self-funded, 20 participants in total Workshop was a success with great performance from the participants. (as per slide)

9 TUFCES – a New Reporting Tool
TUFCES (Tuna Fisheries Catch and Effort Query System) is a new query system based on the functionality of CES, but designed so that it can utilise any catch and effort data, including: TUFMAN logsheet, unloadings, and port sampling data WCPFC annual catch estimates SPC’s regional databases VMS data (for effort) Observer data Etc. Any other useful data sets can be added Is currently in ‘Beta’ version but is being used by SPC, with plans to make it available to countries to access their TUFMAN data in a simpler way (being installed in Marshall islands right now) (as per slide)

10 TUFCES Select Source, Data Type, and Gear (as per slide)

11 TUFCES Select Source, Data Type, and Gear (TUFMAN example)
Sources can have ‘sub-sources’ ‘Data Type’ for TUFMAN will expand to include unloadings, port sampling, and VMS data (as per slide)

12 TUFCES Once gear is selected, the other options are presented for vessel flag, nationality of catch, time period, geographic area, species, catch, effort, and CPUE. The values in these lists comes dynamically from the data source (is queried in real time) Each variable can be reported ‘combined’ or separated (e.g. Vessel flag ‘report by’ options are: All flags combined Flag (as per slide)

13 TUFCES (as per slide)

14 TUFCES (as per slide)

15 TUFCES (as per slide)

16 TUFCES Catch, Effort and CPUE options (as per slide)

17 TUFCES Results window – can be exported to Excel or copied and pasted
(as per slide)

18 TUFCES Still to do: More data sources to be added Mapping capability
Preparation for use in-country (as per slide)

19 PLEASE THINK ABOUT WHAT NEW REPORTS WE CAN PROVIDE FOR TUFMAN
TDW-7 Recommendation... TUFMAN REPORTS Country comments made on need for enhanced TUFMAN reporting ... Noting that TUFCES will potentially satisfy these requests ... We need you feedback on the specific reports you require ... Draft TDW-7 Recommendation – Enhanced TUFMAN reports... SPC continue to enhance and install TUFCES in member countries ... SPC continue to enhance WCPFC Reports including the CMM reporting obligations... SPC consider adding custom reports for national requriements ... PLEASE THINK ABOUT WHAT NEW REPORTS WE CAN PROVIDE FOR TUFMAN (as per slide)
