2 INFORMATION FOR ALL EVENTS
Review “Eligibility and General Rules for All Levels of Competition” prior to event planning and preparation.

3 Discover Each Project must include a Planning Process summary page.
Planning Process—A five-step method (identify concerns, set a goal, form a plan, act, and follow up) to help FCCLA chapter members and advisers plan individual, group, or chapter activities. All events must have this and incorporate it into the event and presentation This can be found at Chapter Advisers – Chapter Resources

7 INFORMATION Evidence of Online Complete the online project summary form located on the STAR Events Project Summary Submission Resources page of the FCCLA national website and include proof of submission in the portfolio. This will be worth one point on the Room Consultant Check portion of the Rubric.

8 ELIGIBILITY TO COMPETE
Junior category: participants must have completed a course or unit of study in child or human development knowledge areas. Senior/Occupational category: participants must be or have been enrolled in a Family and Consumer Sciences course or foundational courses preparing them for education careers, training careers, or child or human development knowledge areas.

9 Teach and Train An individual event
Recognizes participants who demonstrate their ability to explore and experience the career of teaching or training Must prepare a portfolio of the teaching/training career, prepare and execute a complete lesson/workshop plan and an oral presentation. Portfolio – A record/collection of a person’s work organized in a format that best suits the project and meets the requirements of the event.

10 Teach and Train Senior and occupational participants will also complete a shadowing experience of a “best practices” educator. Best Practices Educator – An educator who models professional qualities, continued professional development and the use of current instructional approaches and strategies for teaching and learning. A best practice educator is committed to incorporating various teaching methods and seeks to utilize relevant content to create a classroom that is student focused. The educator should be recognized by peers for excellence and be fully certified in his/her field.

13 Junior Specifications: Portfolio & Oral Presentation
May be up to 10 minutes Presentation is to describe research and career exploration, and lesson/workshop plan efforts in detail. The portfolio will be used during the oral presentation.

Shadowing Experience with Best Practices Educator Document experience of shadowing and interviewing an educator who is competent and professionally excellent in selected career field Examples of documentation of shadowing experience (may include, but not limited to) Written summaries of interviews from business, industry, agency, and organizational personnel Written narrative of job shadowing Photographs of shadowing experience

19 Parliamentary Procedure
An team event (four to eight members) Recognizes chapters that develop a working knowledge of parliamentary law and the ability to conduct an FCCLA business meeting. Must take a Parliamentary Procedure Knowledge Test, present a demonstration meeting using provided planning materials, and prepare minutes of the meeting.

23 Specifications: Knowledge Test & Demonstrated Meeting
All participants will have 30 minutes during the required Orientation/Test Session to take a test derived from questions and answers submitted by the National Association of Parliamentarians. Test scores of all participants on a team will be averaged to determine a team test score. Average is worth 25% of the teams final score. Study Questions are provided on a link on Helpful Links

24 Specifications: Secretary’s Record
Will be taken by the Secretary during the meeting on the provided form Completed record is presented to the evaluators immediately following the adjournment of the meeting. MAY NOT BE REWRITTEN AFTER THE MEETING! It will not be evaluated as final minutes. Evaluated for coverage of all meeting activities. See examples in Helpful Links of Opening & Closing Ceremony and Secretary’s Record.

28 Early Childhood An individual event
Recognizes participants who demonstrate their ability to use knowledge and skills gained form their enrollment in an Occupational early childhood program. Occupational Student – is one who has completed or is currently taking a concentrated program that prepares individuals for paid employment.

29 Early Childhood Participants must prepare a portfolio and a resource container. On site, participants must plan and present to evaluators and activity related to the theme in response to a case study provided during the event and an oral presentation describing the activity.

39 Fashion Design An individual event
Recognizes participants who apply fashion design skills learned in Family and Consumer Sciences courses to design and market clothing styles. Participants will develop Clothing Label Research the Intended Office Design the label’s first 6-piece collection Construct one collection sample using an original flat pattern designed by the participant

40 Fashion Design Students will exhibit knowledge of all aspects that surround design, including design basics, fabric choice, and pricing. Participants must prepare a portfolio, sample garment, and an oral presentation

One actual size prototype of a design from the 6 piece collection which is created solely by the participant out of the intended production materials Sample should be presented to evaluators with the portfolio prior to the presentation and should be displayed during the presentation

Sample may be displayed using a mannequin, dress form, or other method chosen by the participant MAY NOT BE MODELED BY THE PARTICIPANT OR ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL DURING THE PRESENTATION Modification or use of a commercial pattern is not allowed.

45 Specifications: Oral Presentation Skills
May be up to 10 minutes Presentation should explain the specifics of the project Participants may use any combination of props, materials, supplies, and/or equipment to demonstrate how to carry out the project
