Purpose Evaluate the current state Define the potential future of Marine Spatial Data Infrastructures (MSDIs). Emphasize the rapid evolution of technologies and methodologies for generating non-navigational location-based information of value to a broad range of users (much larger market) Propose, potentially, a full test bed /pilot with a focus on key use cases identified in the final report, for example, Cross community bathymetric information sharing for the Arctic. Background Rapid advancement of technologies means increased diversity of data collectors , e.g. increased bathymetric data collection from non traditional sources (e.g. corporate, citizens) Organizations collect data of value to a multitude of non-navigational applications (e.g. Ocean science, energy exploration, UN sustainable development goal 14 ) There is a need to account for the integration of diverse data sources/capabilities such as (but not limited to); Crowd-sourced bathymetric data collection Autonomous surface and submerged vehicle data collection Satellite / airborne imaging for shallow water bathymetric collection Shipboard active bathymetric data collection Explosion of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and their potential application Big data analytics Copyright © 2017 Open Geospatial Consortium

Objectives Document; Current state of MSDIs Needs for a MSDI based on current emerging technologies Strategies to interoperate with other Spatial Data Infrastructures Develop a common interoperability reference architecture Engage with experts from across the user community, echnology / information and services providers, including hydrographic offices, industry, government, research, and other SDOs. Propose a potential follow on OGC innovation pilot project or testbed, with a focus on key use cases identified in the final report, such as but not limited to cross community bathymetric information sharing for the Arctic.
