14 English Language Arts The Common Core State Standards for Language Arts require an increased focus on complex text writing from sources close, analytic reading academic vocabulary text-dependent questions speaking & listening text-based evidence short, focused research Explain that this will be the focus of the curriculum in grades 3-5.
