Religion and commerce were at the centre of Babylon’s influence and both are fallen
This seems to speak of both past and future, but is in the Aorist tense
Fallen once and for all

3. Babylon is fallen A dwelling place of demons A prison of foul spirits
A cage for unclean birds
There is nothing good here and all that dwell here are incarcerated
The reason?
Verse 3 – because the nations have drunk of the wine of her fornication.
They are incarcerated because of their successful deceit

4. Babylon is fallen
Unclean birds tend to be birds that eat other birds or animals – birds of prey
Or they are birds with cruel tendencies
Job 39 v – the Ostrich (peacock)
Lamentations 4 v 1 – 3
So these beings are devourers, deceivers and cruel beings who cause the nations to commit fornication with the whore
Verse 4 – another angelic voice (alos)
Come out of her my people
Don’t commit her sins and don’t get her plagues

God is not ignorant of any sin
We need to note that God’s remembrance makes repayment in kind – a double portion – inevitable
Hebrews 8 and Jeremiah 31 – He doesn’t remember ours
Psalm 51 – David asked for forgiveness with the expectation he would receive it
Luxury for torment and sorrow

Complacent in sin
Retribution to be sudden

Breathtakingly fast judgement
We need to be careful what we invest ourselves into
verses 10 – 14 speaks of the extent of the loss
The lesson of Matthew 6 verse 9 coming to pass

7. Babylon is fallen V 18 What is like this great city?
They previously said, “who is like the beast and who can make war with him”
Now they are finding out – the whore was riding the beast
Dust on their heads – mortified by their error
Joshua 7 v 6 - regret
Job 2 v 11 – 13 - grief
Ezekiel 29 v 30 - Tyre

8. Babylon is fallen Subject of rejoicing for God’s Prophets and Apostles
Justice is being done
Last part of the chapter describes the deprivation of Babylon
A violent end
All the nice things gone
No marriage (perhaps no commitment or fondness)
All brought about by sorcery
Pharmakia
Enchantment
The blood of the saints found in her – consumed God’s people
