1 A quick introduction to Leadership Connect:
the online learning platform of 21st Century Leaders

2 Leadership Connect uses Atlanta-based Jubi, a recently-developed content management system used by companies like Home Depot and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. They are providing the system for our use at the annual rate of $60 per student with a sliding scale that goes as low as $36- down from their corporate rate of $240 per user! And they are waving the $5,000 annual fee to use the authoring suite.

3 Quests and Challenges Our system is built on a series of “Programs”, “Quests” and “Challenges”. A “Program” can be thought of as a theme or, course. We currently have published 11 Programs. A “Quest” can be thought of as a lesson within a course. We have currently published 34 Quests. A “Challenge” is an individual activity within a Quest. Completing a Challenge earns you points. When fully built out there will be well over 100 Quests at three different levels of learning to guide students throughout their high school years. The levels are Discovery, Exploration, and Mastery each designed to be accomplished in a few hours each semester.

4 Image-rich! Here is a screen shot of the user experience where you can see all 11 “Programs”. You’ll notice that each Program is themed around mountaineering and expeditions with thematic story built into each! By the way, the logos you see at the top right of each quest is the badge the student will receive when successfully completing all Quests within a Program. One badge per program at each level. The next slide will show you a larger screen shot of the same image.

6 Programs have Multiple Quests
Each Program is a series of Quests, or lessons, that are themed by topic. Our Programs include our 7 core competencies, corporate explorations, and other topics. We are also building “specialty” Programs. The image is a partial screen shot that includes the Action-Oriented Alps- one of our 7 core competencies.

7 Quests have Multiple Challenges
Each Quest provides a series of challenges and takes 7-12 minutes to complete plus activities outside of the online system. A Quest may have as many as 6 or 7 Challenges. The image is a screen shot of the 3 Quests that are currently built out for the Discovery level of the Action- Oriented Alps- one of our core competencies. The Quests are Ready, Set, Go: How to Brainstorm, Getting SMARTer About Goals, and The Eisenhower Decision Matrix.

8 Georgia Power Diversity and Inclusion Series
As we build out the system we will develop some specialty Programs in conjunction with key partners. Here is a screen shot that includes the first one we have developed with Georgia Power. It is inspired by the diversity training delivered every year at EarthCare. To develop this Program we worked with a team from Georgia Power that included an instructional designer, a diversity trainer, and a communications specialist. Thank you Danny Lindsey!

9 A whole course on Diversity and Inclusion!
Here is a screenshot within the Diversity and Inclusion Program showing 5 Quests. Inside each Quest are Challenges that include several To-Dos and Action Items that students will need to complete outside of the system, report back, and then get sign-off from their their teacher or a 21CL program leader. Even if you can’t attend a 21CL summer institute you can still learn and grow through Leadership Connect!

10 Explore More! As we build out the system we will develop a number of Quests, or lessons, that deliver additional content to students who may not be able to participate in our live training events. Here is a screen shot from the Explore More program where we will place any number of quick lessons students might need as they become leaders in their schools and communities.

11 Turner Voices Shown at right is an Explore More lesson generally delivered live during our Turner Voices Youth Media Institute. This was developed mainly from a deck of existing content, a brief video clip done via iPhone by the content developer, and a couple of quick phone calls to make sure we were getting it right. Your company probably has content like this that we can use for Leadership Connect!

12 Company Cairns A “cairn” is a signpost or significant trail marker usually made of stones; you might miss it unless you know to look. Which is what we do with our students every day! Our company cairns are virtual tours of companies and their opportunities for talented and motivated young people. Over time we envision MANY of these virtual tours.

13 Nordson Within the Company Cairn Program are two Quests that are all about Nordson, an international manufacturing company with an award-winning plant in Swainsboro, GA. The image shows the start of the first Quest and is all about the company. The second Quest is all about scholarships, internships and other opportunities for motivated students. Over time we envision LOTS of companies and virtual tours on our online learning platform engaging hundreds of students each year.

14 Research-based! Many of you have met 21CL program alum Jacques-Corey Cormier. SW DeKalb High School. Morehouse College. Georgia Southern University. Georgia State University for his Ph.D in Psychology. A long-time summer staff member. His Ph.D dissertation was based on research done with 21CL programs and students. Key finding: Emotional Intelligence is strengthened by 21CL programs and a key factor in students’ future success.

15 Emotional Intelligence
We are currently developing a plan to build out an entire program on Emotional Intelligence. We have accessto content experts and some starting content. But we need funding to build it out properly into a series of 9 or 10 Quests over our three-level format of Discovery, Exploration, and Mastery. Content like this could be a key factor in building partnerships with other youth-serving organizations who also could use our training. Just an example of the good we can do with this new platform!
