1 2 STAND DOWN TOP ISSUES ALERT POWER CORD SAFETY BE SAFE STAY SAFE
Using extension cords A recent injury brings home for all us an important safety point – electrical cords. A GDI employee, while vacuuming, tripped over her vacuum’s power cord. The resulting fall placed the employee in the hospital with a broken hip. DO YOUR PART TO BE (1) AWARE OF YOUR TRIP HAZARDS, (2) POST CAUTION SINGS OVER POWER CORDS THAT RUN ACROSS WELL TRAVELED FLOORS, AND (3) DON’T LEAVE CORDS ON THE FLOOR AFTER YOUR ACTIVE WORK IS DONE. Frayed cords – REPORT do NOT fix or use. Do NOT tie cords together Use a power cord connector Use a GFI (Ground Fault Interrupter) with any cord used to power heavy equipment and equipment used in or around water. Frayed cords & those repeatedly tied in knots will break / expose inner wires and can create a hazard.
