2 That is about 1,000 students a year participating in sports.
AGHS Athletic Program There are 20 different athletic sports for our students to choose from. Almost half of our school population participates in at least one athletic sport. That is about 1,000 students a year participating in sports. Each year we have at least one team that wins a divisional title & several of our teams have players who are recognized as exceptional athletes within our divisional conference. GO EAGLES!

8 Why target freshman athletes?
To EDUCATE! National Collegiate Athletic Association More than $2.7 billion in athletic scholarships are distributed each year along with access to medical care, academic support services and first-class training opportunities. The advantages of competing in college sports are both immediate and lifelong. Participating in college sports provides opportunities to learn, compete and succeed. Nearly 1,100 colleges and universities in NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III allow students the chance to attend school anywhere across the United States.

9 Intended Goal To increase the number of student athletes who will attend, play and receive scholarships from a NCAA DI, D II, D III schools by 20% each year.

10 How will we accomplish this goal?
By increasing the number of student athletes registering & completing NCAA eligibility requirements by their senior year.

12 Our intervention for change…
Our School Counselor team… Facilitates an NCAA informational presentation before practice at the start of each athletic season FALL, WINTER & SPRING. Present NCAA information at the athletic parent night for each season FALL, WINTER & SPRING. Visible at athletic events with information on NCAA opportunities for parents & athletes. Educate coaches on NCAA general information & process.

17 Creating an NCAA Athletic Culture
Data reveals that student athletes are forming an NCAA athletic future by: Increasing their knowledge on NCAA eligibility requirements Increasing their academic GPA Pledging to be leaders on and off of the field. An increase in appointments scheduled to create an NCAA course plan.

18 Focuses only on 9th grade student athletes.
Restrictions Focuses only on 9th grade student athletes. What about 10th-12th grade athletes? We are providing an additional presentation for these students during the start of the winter season.

19 Our overall GOAL is to ensure…
Every student athlete and their parents are given general NCAA information. Each student athlete will know how to create a NCAA course plan over the next three years to meet the NCAA eligibility course requirements. Our student athletes will meet the NCAA eligibility requirements by the first semester of their senior year. Each athlete understands their responsibility in displaying outstanding athletic leadership and talent over the next three years.

20 Goal in progress… These freshmen athletes will play a leadership role by improving their attendance, grades and behavior on and off the athletic playing field during the next three years to increase their chances of recruitment by an NCAA DI, II, and III schools by 2019.
