I have a two-fold purpose tonight:
1. Clear up some misinformation
2. Provide tools to teach others
Let’s look at 5 Lies about Science taught in today’s schools, universities, and in the media

4. Terms
Science – a method for looking at the world around us in a specific way
Hypothesis – explanation for why things are the way they are
Theory – general explanation
Law – a description of something that is observed (example: Law of Gravity)

5. Terms continued
Evolution – everything that exists came from the Big Bang, chance occurences, random mutation, natural selection
Macroevolution - matter coming from energy, life coming from nonliving things, species changing into new species
Microevolution – random mutations and natural selection (survival of the fittest)
Creationism – God created the universe

6. Lie #1 Science and evolution are the same thing
(if you don’t believe in evolution then you don’t believe in science)
