“Submit To God” James 4:7-10

2 Steps to recovery James 4:7-10 (NKJV)
7  Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8  Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9  Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

3 Steps to recovery I. THERE IS AN INDICTMENT: (vs.8)
A. YOUR CONDUCT: “you sinners” – a term used to describe someone who is unconverted. (James 5:20) B. YOUR CHOICES: “you double-minded” – (James 1:7,8 and 4:8)

4 Steps to recovery II. THERE IS AN INVITATION: (vs.9,10)
A. There is an invitation to HARMONY: CONSECRATION TO GOD: Submit to God COURAGE TO STAND AGAINST: Resist the devil COMMUNION WITH GOD: Draw near to God

B. There is an invitation to HOLINESS: CLEANSING FOR SERVICE: cleanse your hands CONVERSION: Purify your hearts

C. There is an invitation to HUMILITY: BROKENNESS: Lament, Mourn, Weep GRIEVE OVER SIN: Turn your laughter to mourning SORROW FROM THE WAYWARDNESS: Joy to gloom

The steps to recovery should lead to humility: Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord: He gives grace for humility: James 4:6 The way up is by going down The servant posture is the way to promotion
