Treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with dapagliflozin for 14 days led to a 25–30% improvement in muscle sensitivity to insulin (part a) and a nearly twofold increase in β-cell function (part b). The improvement in these two parameters resulted from the amelioration of glucotoxicity (that is, a reduction in plasma glucose concentration secondary to glucosuria) and contributed to improvements in overall glucose homeostasis.
