Building an Economy Learning Target: I can manually construct an economic network

2 Networks (Intro, Construct, Analyze, Quiz)
Week Title 1 Networks (Intro, Construct, Analyze, Quiz) Lesson 1: Introduction to Networks Lesson 2: Analyze a Network Lesson 3: Construct a Network Lesson 4: Quiz 2 Human System Projects 3 Ecosystem / Field Work 4 Cryptocurrencies / Modeling 6th period

3 Outline for Today Lab Notebook: Food Web Construct an Economic Network
Group Presentations

4 Food Web Construct a food web using the following biotic factors: Worm
Human Grass Chicken Cow Corn

5 Food Web Energy! What is moving through the food web?
The direction of the arrow represents the direction energy is flowing. In a food web, energy flows away from the organism being eaten toward the organism doing the eating. Worm Human Grass Chicken Cow Corn

6 Ecology and Economy Ecosystem, Ecology, Economy, and Economics all share the same prefix: Eco- which means “house” (Greek) Ecosystem: a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment Ecology: the study of relationships between organisms and the environment Economy: the wealth and resources of a country or region, especially in terms of the production and consumption of goods and services Economics: the branch of knowledge concerned with the production, consumption, and transfer of wealth

7 Example Economic Network
Employees Suppliers Taxes Me Gas Station Restaurant School District My Family Grocery Store Coffee Shop My Wife Edges represent money flowing through the network Nodes represent entities receiving and spending $$$

8 Building an Economy Working in small groups (3-4 students each), your job is to build a small economy Draw on your personal experiences or create something entirely new Your economy must account for the exchange of goods and services between nodes Is your system fully self-contained? Do you require raw materials? The group must create a model of the economic network consisting of clearly labeled nodes and edges in poster form Each student must contribute at least 5 nodes and 5 edges in the network and be able to share their contributions to the class Each group will have 3 minutes to present their model to the class
