Interpretation Book clubs

2 You’re in charge Since you have grown so much over the summer, the best thing I can do to make this an amazing year for you and your reading lives is to make it so that YOU are in charge of your reading!

3 Teaching point Today I want to teach you that in this upcoming year, you can go through a growth spurt as a reader. But that will only happen if you work on your reading, if you take on the goal of getting better at reading and if you work with deliberateness toward the specific goals you set.

10 I know these are the thoughts going through your head right now
You might be thinking : I am nuts. You might be thinking: Actually, I don’t need to work on my reading , I can read just fine. You might be thinking: I learned to read in first grade and I haven’t had any trouble since. BUT – just like there is a difference between writing like a first grader and writing like a fifth grade, there is a BIG difference in the kind of reading you do, too.

11 So, how to start the year? How to set a goal??
If you start by saying: “My reading is fine. I’m all done growing as a reader,” then that will be the way the year is for you---and that would be a shame. BUT, if you start this year, studying yourself as a reader and making ambitious and important goals for yourself, you stand a good chance of growing dramatically as a reader, even if you start as a strong reader.
