What is a simple sentence?
Simple = easy, basic Has one independent clause. May have a compound subject. May have a compound verb. May have both.

What is a compound sentence?
A compound sentence is two simple sentences/independent clauses joined together using one of three patterns.

Three (3) ways to write a compound sentence
Pattern #1: Simple sentence + comma + coordinating conjunction (and, but, nor, or, so, yet) + simple sent #2: Simple sentence + semi-colon + simple sentence #3: Simple sent + semi-colon + conjunctive adverb (therefore, however) + comma + simple sentence
