Left Wing Centrist Right Wing Support change Support Tradition and Change Support Tradition Increased Govt role in the economy Govt role in economy only when needed Limited Govt role in economy Emphasis on Social Services Rights of individuals should be protected Law and order as a high priority LW: Social services = more govt spending = increased taxes RW: Cut Govt spending & harsher penalties for criminals

Today’s society: People rule through their representatives Govt and people follow the same constitution Human rights are protected in the constitution Elections held Universal suffrage Universal suffrage (all adults can vote)

5 Communism (Left) Economic equality = share wealth produced by the country Economy is highly regulated by govt Freedoms may be restricted (censorship) Social Programs In opposition to Capitalism Economic equality: In reality not always the case. Think about stalin era (Officials = richer, farmers/labourers = poorer) Reduced private sector and economic competition

6 Fascism (Right) -Absolute Authority by a single party
-Belief in extreme nationalism -Belief that people must serve their state -Emphasis on military strength Be willing to sacrifice for your country Imperial War Conquest Do not disagree with the govt
