Black History Month honors the contributions of African Americans to U.S. history. Black History Month began as “Negro History Week,” which was created in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, a noted African American historian, scholar, educator, and publisher. It became a month-long celebration in The month of February was chosen to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.

After working as a White House chef in the 1820s, Augustus Jackson invented new recipes and a better technique for making ice cream. He DID NOT actually invent ice cream as we thought.
He designed a device that helped with preserving perishable foods by way of refrigeration. Thomas also is known for inventing the commode.
