1 Expectations (Behaviour)
Get prepared for lessons quickly Bring all necessary equipment Don’t speak when I am explaining/giving instructions Don’t speak when another student has been asked to Be respectful

2 Expectations (Learning)
Take responsibility Be active Be inquisitive Don’t be afraid to make mistakes Don’t be critical of other students’ attempts

3 Lab rules Do not enter the lab without a member of staff present
No eating No drinking Long hair tied back Clean desk policy

4 Year 8 - Physics TERM 1 The definition of work and energy in physics as opposed to the use of the words in everyday speech Conservation of energy The Golden Rule of Mechanics Mathematical description of potential and kinetic energy Efficiency Levers, pulleys and inclined planes (using forces).

5 Year 8 - Physics TERM 2 Composition of matter Internal Energy
Change in volume TERM 3 Resistance in simple circuits Electrical energy and power Energy supplies

6 Year 8 - Physics ASSESSMENT
Participation in class, practicals and group work Two Schulaufgaben (terms 2 and 3), one announced, written test (“Term Test” in term 1) One long-form, graded lab report in term 2/3

7 **Note that the Term Test in term 1 is double weighted**
Year 8 - Physics ASSESSMENT 50% - Two Schulaufgaben (terms 2 and 3) 50% - All other assessment **Note that the Term Test in term 1 is double weighted**

8 Energy & Energy Transfers
What is energy? Scientific Term Translation Energy die Energie Fuel der Brennstoff Light Energy die Lichtenergie Kinetic Energy die Bewegungsenergie Chemical Potential chemisches Potenzial Electrical Energy die Elektroenergie Sound Energy die Schallenergie Elastic Potential Energy die Verzerrungsenergie Thermal Energy die Wärmeenergie Nuclear Energy die Atomenergie

9 Energy Energy is required to do work.
Fuels are burnt to release energy The Sun is the ultimate source of most of our energy on Earth.

10 Energy Energy can be stored and transferred in different ways
These stores are often referred to as forms of energy

11 Unscramble the anagrams to work out the forms of energy
Unscramble the anagrams to work out the forms of energy. Then name something that has this kind of energy. Answers Light Kinetic Chemical potential Electrical Sound Elastic potential ghitl nicktei latitopen mechlaci tricelealc nosdu istacel latitopen

12 Self Assessment

13 Self Assessment How did you do?
Very Poor OK Poor Good Very Good

14 Forms of Energy CHEMICAL ENERGY
This is energy that is released when chemical reactions take place. Sources of chemical energy include: fuel, food and batteries

15 Forms of Energy KINETIC ENERGY
Gravitational potential energy being converted into kinetic energy. KINETIC ENERGY This is the energy possessed by a moving object. Kinetic energy increases is the object’s speed is increased. GRAVITATIONAL POTENTIAL ENERGY This is the energy possessed an object due to its position. The gravitational potential energy of an object increases if it is raised upwards.

16 Forms of Energy ELASTIC ENERGY
This is the energy stored in a stretched or squashed object - also known as strain energy ELECTRICAL ENERGY This is the energy transferred by an electric current. SOUND ENERGY This is energy in the form of a sound wave.

17 Forms of Energy THERMAL ENERGY
This is the energy of an object due to its temperature. - also known as heat energy LIGHT ENERGY This is energy in the form of visible electromagnetic radiation. NUCLEAR ENERGY This is energy that is released when nuclear reactions take place. This is the source of the Sun’s energy.

18 Useful and Wasted Energy
Useful energy This is energy transferred to where it is wanted in the form it is wanted. Wasted energy This is energy transferred to where it is not wanted in the form it is not wanted.
