2 Matter Anything that has mass or takes up space

4 Atom The smallest particle of an element that has the properties of that element

5 Element A pure substance that cannot be broken down into a simpler substance by ordinary chemical changes. An element consists of atoms of only one type.

7 Pure Substance A single kind of matter that is pure and has a specific set of properties

8 Compound A substance made up of two or more different types of elements chemically combined

10 Molecule A group of atoms that are held together by covalent bonds so that they move as a single unit

12 Mixture Matter that consists of two or more substances mixed together but not chemically combined

13 Heterogeneous Mixture
A mixture in which pure substances are unevenly distributed throughout the mixture

14 Homogeneous Mixture A mixture in which pure substances are evenly distributed throughout the mixture
