Blood Covenant Part 4 4/2/2017 Exodus 33:4 – On their gods also the Lord executed judgments. (Forgot this verse last week )

Covenants Are Everywhere
Exodus 19:5-6 – Keep My Covenant Exodus 24:7-8 – The Book of the Covenant The Ark of the Covenant covered by the Mercy Seat Exodus 34:10 – God renews the covenant Deuteronomy – Blessings and Curses Deuteronomy – Moses’ last words – choose life and obey the covenant How about those Gibeonites? Joshua 9: then 400 years later in 2 Samuel 21.

David and Jonathan 1 Samuel 18:1-4 - As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father's house. Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt.

David and Jonathan 1 Samuel 20:8-9 – Brought your servant into covenant of the Lord with you 1 Samuel 20:16-17 – Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David 1 Samuel 20: Sworn in the name of the Lord that the Lord would be between my offspring and your offspring forever

2 Samuel 4:4 – Jonathan, the son of Saul, had a son who was crippled in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel, and his nurse took him up and fled, and as she fled in her haste, he fell and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.

1 Samuel 9:1-5 Lo-debar – not having or no pasture

2 Samuel 9:6 And Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, son of Saul, came to David and fell on his face and paid homage. And David said, “Mephibosheth!” And he answered, “Behold, I am your servant.”

2 Samuel 9:7 And David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will show you kindness (covenant loyalty) for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of Saul your father, and you shall eat at my table always.”

2 Samuel 9:8 And he paid homage and said, “What is your servant, that you should show regard for a dead dog such as I?”

2 Samuel 9:9-10 Then the king called Ziba, Saul's servant, and said to him, “All that belonged to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master's grandson. And you and your sons and your servants shall till the land for him and shall bring in the produce, that your master's grandson may have bread to eat. But Mephibosheth your master's grandson shall always eat at my table.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

2 Samuel 9:11-13 Then Ziba said to the king, “According to all that my lord the king commands his servant, so will your servant do.” So Mephibosheth ate at David's table, like one of the king's sons. And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Mica. And all who lived in Ziba's house became Mephibosheth's servants. So Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, for he ate always at the king's table. Now he was lame in both his feet.

We Are Like Mephibosheth
We are from an old family, a rival kingdom that is hostile to the King We are covered in shame, crippled by our choices and often fearful before the true King We hid from the King, resisted Him, and feared Him because we did not know Him, yet He sought us out in our sin, death and shame The King extended grace to us based on a covenant that we had nothing to do with Beyond acceptance, we are lavished with grace, mercy, forgiveness, provision, eternity, etc. The King restores everything we lost and invites us to eat at His table with His other children This gift is free but will cost us everything

For Our Consideration Are you running from the King that really loves you? Are you listening to lies about Him? Are you afraid that if you yield to the King that the cost will be too high? If you want to be somewhere else tomorrow, you must make a different choice today – choose life! Taste and see that the Lord is good, what do you really have to lose?

Prayer Focus Thank You Lord for the New Covenant that we enter through the Blood of Jesus Thank You Lord for the new life we receive through this covenant Thank You Lord for Your word that explains such things to us Thank You Lord for a new day
