21 Anthem and Exchanges? Consultancies are launching private exchanges and soliciting Anthem’s participation (as well as that of other carriers) We are developing criteria to objectively evaluate the various emerging models and operators with decisions anticipated for 2014 sales cycle based on: Type of offering (funding) Specific requirements for product, network, pharmacy, specialty, UM, H&W, etc. Associated risk / risk-mitigation approaches Target market(s) (local, national, region) and segment(s) Competitive landscape (other carriers being asked to participate, etc.) Membership and financial implications At the same time, we consider Anthem Health Marketplace, with planned enhancements (e.g., Specialty, COBRA, integration with payroll systems), a viable solution for national employers seeking defined contribution / single-carrier models We will continue to enhance our own offering while engaging in discussions with the various players Our overall objective is to selectively support / participate in those exchanges that present: Viable opportunities for the market Successful solutions for the exchange operator, employer and Anthem
