1 Using a Drawing App to Teach Physical Education
Mr. Lampert Grenora High School

2 What is it?? An app that lets students draw directly on the screen of their ipad. This is a way to allow students to complete activities without having several worksheets. Examples of apps to use: Annotate Skitch Draw on Pictures There are several examples of apps to use but I choose to use Annotate in my classroom.

3 How I use it in the Classroom
When I introduce a new activity, exercise, or lifting circuit into my Physical education classroom, I like to give the students information on why we are doing these activities. I like to show the students visually what I want them to do and what it is the exercise is accomplishing. To do this I give every student an iPad. These iPads already have the photos saved on to their camera role. Each student will then open up the annotate app and draw out what they think is happening in the photo.

4 Examples: Cardiovascular Exerciser
What type of exercise is this? Kids can insert a text box to answer the question. They then write in an answer with an explanation of the exercise. *Pictures are taken from Google for this example. I didn’t want my own pictures of students being put on the internet without their permission Jump Rope increases your heart rate.

5 Students can also use their finger to draw out the answer.
The best part of using this style of teaching is you can ask any question. In this example I would ask the students what skill are we working on in this game? *Pictures are taken from Google for this example. I didn’t want my own pictures of students being put on the internet without their permission

6 What muscle groups are we working with this exercise?

8 Using this technology in Weight lifting classes.
Eyes should be up!!! Flat Back This is a great activity to get students to remember teaching ques. What good things do you see him doing in this picture? What things do you see him doing wrong? Go down so legs are parallel to the floor.

9 Name the exercise and what muscle group we are working on.
Example: Name the exercise and what muscle group we are working on.

10 Excellent Assessment Tool
Many times I find that the important information from my Physical Education lessons get forgotten by the students. When asked if they know why we are doing something, students are unsure of why they are learning these activities. Having students draw on the pictures helps me assess where we are at with learning the information and if they are leaning the key concepts. I want students to know that physical education is not just about playing games but also about getting ourselves in shape and living a healthy lifestyle.

11 SAMR Model LEvel Augmentation
Allows students to get instant feedback from the teacher. Lets the teacher know instantly who is getting the concepts and who isn’t. Changes the classroom environment by not just having verbal lecture or communication, but also adding a visual activity as well.

12 Other Practical Applications
Math Class Take a picture of a building, have the students draw and identify angles and shapes. Take a picture of a construction project, and have your students determine if things are parallel or perpendicular. Science Class Have students look at a nature scene and circle all the living objects. Have students interpret a picture of a graph by drawing and labeling everything.

13 Final THoughts Like I said earlier in the presentation, I like to use this activity for more of an assessment of my own teaching. It lets me get a better idea of which students are getting the concepts and who isn’t. If I have a large class that is not understanding what I am teaching, more activities or class breakdowns are needed.
