3 REAL LIFE CASE SCENARIO
64 Year Old Gentleman Mr R attends our Memory Clinic with his son He presented with H/O progressive short Term Memory Problems with H/O HT and DM Evaluation highlighted he was on 11 Medicines along with Insulin He was Driving and denied any problems with Driving

4 Case Scenario –Cont Further Evaluation Highlights ,Recently he went to his Hairdressers next street Lost his way and was located about 100 KM away and not knowing where he was Another occasion went missing and was located late at night in his Old Farm House area His son also informs ,though a shrewd businessman by nature he lost 2 Million QR In his business ,family fears he was duped .

Is it safe for patients with Dementia to Continue driving How would you address this issue 2) Our Gentlemen is on 11 Medicines along with Insulin .Are there any Issues that we need to consider in such cases and if so what and how ? 3) We understand from our Patients family ,he went missing on one occasion and Lost his way on another occasion .How would you address such issues ? 4) His family also reports he Lost large sums of Money in his business and they fear he was duped How will you proceed ,what are the measures that can be considered to enhance safety in this regard

7 DEMENTIA AND SAFETY –CONCLUSION
In History Taking for Dementia –Risk Evaluation is Mandatory Individuals with Dementia may lack decision making capacity Driving becomes less safe as cognition deteriorates ,needs further risk assessments Essential to Ensure Safety Measures in Medication administration are enforced all times

8 DEMENTIA AND SAFETY –CONCLUSIONS
Some patients with Dementia wander and may become lost with an attendant Risk of personal harm or even death Impaired financial capacity may occur early in Dementia with adverse consequences , this issue should be addressed with family early on after diagnosis Working across Organizations –Systems should be Established which ensures Enhanced Safety Measures are Always at the Core of Dementia care in the Country
