2 Bell ringer Think about the last important decision you made.
What influenced it? How did you come to one choice or action over the other?

3 Common decision-making strategies
Destiny: Letting outside forces decide-leaving it up to “fate” Spontaneity: Choosing the first option that comes to mind;giving it little or no consideration to the consequences of the choice

4 Common decision-making strategies
Compliance: Going along family, school, or peer expectations Procrastination: Postponing thought and action until options are limited Agonizing: Accumulating so much information that analyzing the options becomes overwhelming

5 Common decision-making strategies
Intention: Choosing an option that will be both intellectually and emotionally satisfying Inspiration: Doing something just because “it feels right” or because “it just seems like the right thing to do.”

6 Common decision-making strategies
Inertia: knowing you need to make a decision, but not going what needs to be done to make the choice Desire: Choosing the option that might achieve the best result, regardless of the risk involved

Avoidance:Choosing the option that is most likely to avoid the worst possible result Security: Choosing the option which will bring some success, offend the fewest people, and pose the least risk

Synthesis: Choosing the option that has a good chance to succeed and which you like the best

9 In your table break up into groups of three.
Each group will be given a decision making strategy Create an APPROPRIATE cartoon demonstrating this decision making strategy. You will have 10 minutes to do this, then be prepared to share. I will walk around and inform you of your decision making strategy

12 Decision time Scenario: Jon has his first pay check of $125 after working at the local Dairy Queen. He wonders what he should do with the money. He owes his friend Tim $50, wants to buy a new video game for $75, needs spending money till his next pay check, and wants to save. What should he do? Write down the choice you would make using the decision making process.

13 Homework Start filling out the “Now you make a choice” worksheet with an appropriate decision that you have to make this weekend. This is due MONDAY!
