Vendors buy The Big Issue for £1.25 and sell it on the street for £2.50 meaning every seller is a micro-entrepreneur. The Big Issue currently works with over 2,500 sellers across the UK and is read by 418,000 people a week.* Created as a business solution to the social problem of homelessness, The Big Issue has inspired other street papers in more than 120 countries.
Founded in 2005, Big Issue Invest extends The Big Issue’s mission to tackle poverty and create opportunity by financing the growth of sustainable social enterprises.
Big Issue Invest offers social enterprises, charities and profit-with-purpose businesses, loans and investment from £50,000 to £3 million. Big Issue Invest is also bringing social investment to the mainstream with the launch of the UK Social Bond Fund with Columbia Threadneedle Investments. This is the first social investment fund offering daily liquidity and has raised £80 million as of November 2015.
