15 How to Check if an Animal is a Service Animal
Look – Is the animal a dog or mini horse? Ask – You may only ask the following: Is the animal required because of a disability? What work or task has the service animal been trained to perform? You May Not: Ask the above when it is obvious that an animal is trained to do work for an individual with a disability Require documentation or charge extra fees EXAMPLE of when obvious – can see dog is guiding blind/low-vision individual; dog pulling wheelchair; dog assisting with balance for person w/ observable mobility disability EXAMPLE of documentation – certification for dog, proof of training, etc. Copyright 2015 ES&A, Inc.
