3 Osteopathic Section The Osteopathic section has a character 1 value of 7. Character 2 denotes the body system with a value of W—anatomical regions.

4 Osteopathic Character 3 Value
The character 3 value denotes the root operation. For the Osteopathic section, there is only one root operation of treatment. Treatment is defined as manual treatment to eliminate or alleviate somatic dysfunction and related disorders.

5 Additional Character Values—Osteopathic Section
Character 4 denotes the body region. Character 5 denotes the approach and always has a value of X for external. Character 6 specifies the method by which the manipulation is accomplished. Character 7 is not specified and always has the value of Z.

For the Other Procedures section the characters have the following meanings and values: Character 1—Section. Value of 8 Character 2—Body system. Value of C or E Character 3—Root operations. Value of 0, meaning other procedures. Other procedures are defined as methodologies that attempt to remediate or cure a disorder or disease.

Character 6—Method. Table 8C0 has one value- 6 for Collection Table 8E0 has the following values: 0—Acupuncture 1—Therapeutic massage 6—Collection B- Computer Assisted Procedure C- Robotic Assisted Procedure D- Near Infrared Spectroscopy Y- Other Method

9 Character 7 Values for Other Procedures
Character 7—Qualifier values: Examples of the values include: 0—Anesthesia 1—In vitro fertilization 2—Breast milk 3—Sperm J- Cerebrospinal Fluid The values are unique to each table. Reference Tables 8C0 and 8E0 for the specific values for each table.

10 Chiropractic Section Character 1 for the Chiropractic section has a value of 9. Character 2, body systems, has a value of W denoting anatomical regions. Character 3, root operation, has only one value of B for manipulation.

11 Chiropractic Manipulation Definition
ICD-10-CM defines chiropractic manipulation in Table 9WB. Manipulation is a “manual procedure that involves a directed thrust to move a joint past the physiological range of motion, with exceeding the anatomical limit.”

Character 4—Body region values of 0 to 9 specify the body region on which the manipulation is performed. Character 5—Approach. There is only one value of X for external.
