1 IRON MAN 1 – A Call To Mentor Lesson 4
MAN UP BIBLE SERIES IRON MAN 1 – A Call To Mentor Lesson 4

2 The Real World As kids we were all involved in the drafting process. When it came time for teams to be chosen we lined up along the fence and waited for our name to be called. We never wanted to be the last pick or as we called them, “The Leftovers”. There is a similar process taking place in the Mentor Field. There are many more men looking for a mentor than there are those willing to mentor. Before we cry out that this, "is not fair” remember that Jesus chose twelve out of hundreds to be his close followers. So if you want to find a Mentor then you have to put your house in order. What do I mean by that? From Lesson 3 in this series you had to answer some questions that lead to some real soul searching. Now put that to good use and find a mentor.

3 The Real Word 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28New International Version (NIV)
Final Instructions 12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil. 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. 25 Brothers and sisters, pray for us. 26 Greet all God’s people with a holy kiss.27 I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers and sisters. 28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

4 Real Talk List Three Goals you have for the next year: 1__________________________________________________ 2 _________________________________________________ 3__________________________________________________ When bad things happen to you, who do you blame? Name one good book besides the Bible you read in the last year:

5 Real Steps What A Mentor is looking for :
1. Are you Goal – Oriented? Have a Goal. Are you just getting by or have a goal in mind? 2. Are you growing in your life? Be growing as a person. Or are you just stagnant not really trying? 3. Are you an initiator? Step out first. Or just letting things happen to you? 4. Are you eager to learn? Be ready to learn something new. Or happy not knowing anything new? 5. Are you willing to accept responsibility? Step up and grow. Or do you blame it all on someone else when life happens?

6 Time To Close This might have been a hard lesson to follow. None of us like the idea of being “good enough” to be chosen. It is more than that. I am asking you to “up” your game. Many of us are just going through life without any real purpose. Life can turn into a continual grind and we can get caught on the “Merry Go Round” and have no real plan where we are going or any real desire to get off. It is never easy to look at ourselves. But it is time to do just that. Take a look deep inside of yourself and you may be surprised at what you see. Call yourself to something new. Read some books. Get off the couch. Turn off the TV. Go back to school. Try a new way of doing things. You do not grow as a person by doing the same old thing. Time to MAN UP!
