Land use Planning, effective strategies to developing a successful plan Elements of an Effective Planning process Plans should be community inspired, reflect the vision and values of the community Community Champions are essential Plans are not static, they will change over time A plan can be used to leverage community capacity and opportunity, including stewardship

Team develops workplan, identifies timeline and budget Develop communication strategy providing community information and receiving input Engage and survey community, through forms, workshops Collect local cultural knowledge

10 Notes on planning Development does not stop while planning is occurring There are numerous projects to pursue while the community develops its Strategic Plan, opportunities in forestry, mining, contracting, road maintenance

11 Interim opportunities should include community priorities
An effective aboriginal participation plan should include five key considerations from a First Nations perspective. These include: Employment Training Education/Scholarship Revenue Sharing&Ownership Cultural and Traditional Priorities
