2 CONTENT LAWS OF THERMODYNAMICS SYSTEM & SORROUNDING TYPES OF SYSTEM

3 LAWS OF THERMODYNAMICS
Zeros law of thermodynamic:- If two bodies are in thermal equilibrium with a third body then two bodies are in thermal equilibrium with each other this is known as Zeros law this law was formulated by R.H.Fowler in 1931 The Zeros law of thermodynamics forms the basis for measurement of the Temp.

4 FIRST LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS
It states that energy can neither created nor be destroyed during a process although it may be converted from one to another form. It is depend on law of conservation of energy .

5 SECOND LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS
In a natural thermodynamic process, the sum of the entropies of the interacting thermodynamic systems increases. Equivalently, perpetual motion machines of the second kind are impossible.

6 SYSTEM OR SURROUNDINGS
The specify portion of the universe containing a definite amount of a specific substance under study for the purpose of thermodynamics analysis of a problem is called thermodynamics system OR A part which is our investigation is called system

7 SYSTEM OR SURROUNDINGS
The remaining part of the universe other than the system is called surrounding. usually the region of the universe immediate vicinity of the system and getting effected by changes occurring in the system is taken as its surroundings. EXAMPLE:- When the contain of a jacked reactor are consider as the system then steam condensing in jacket may be consider as surrounding

8 TYPES OF SYSTEM OPEN SYSTEM CLOSED SYSTEM ISOLATED SYSTEM
ADIABETIC SYSTEM

9 OPEN SYSTEM A system which can exchange matter/mass as well as energy with its surroundings is called open system An open system permits transfer both mass & energy across its boundaries and the mass with in the system may not remain constant this system is also refer to as flow system where in material flowing into and out of the system Ex:- 1 A tubular flow reactor 2 An air compressor 3 Heat exchanger

10 CLOSED SYSTEM A system which can exchange energy but not change mass with its surroundings is called closed system In this mass remain fixed a closed system does not permit the transfer of mass crossing its boundaries but permits the transfer of energy and its mass remain constant Ex:- 1 A batch reactor 2 Gas enclosed in a cylinder fitted with piston 3 Thermal power plant consisting of boiler turbine, condenser & pump

11 ISOLATED SYSTEM A system which exchange neither mass nor be energy through the boundary with its surroundings is called isolated system It is fix mass and energy

12 ADIABETIC SYSTEM A system which is thermal insulated from its surrounding is called adiabatic system In thermodynamics, an adiabatic process is one that occurs without transfer of heat or matter between a thermodynamic system and its surroundings. In an adiabatic process, energy is transferred only as work

13 THERMODYNAMICS PROPERTY
EXTENSIVE PROPERTY:- The property of the system which depend upon the mass of the system are called extensive property these property are additive in nature Ex:- volume, internal energy, enthalpy, heat capacity INTENSIVE PROPERTY:- The property of the system which are independent of the mass of the system these are not additive in nature Ex:-temp, pressure, density, specific volume, boiling point, melting point etc.
