2 Inherited Traits The puffin is covered in black and white feathers.
It waddles similarly to a penguin. It’s belly is white so that when looking up in the water, it blends in with the sun. It’s back is black so that when looking down into the deep water, it blends in with the darkness.

3 A Puffin’s body parts Baby puffins peep when they want food.
They use their webbed feet to steer like rudders.

4 Where does it live? The puffin lives between North America and Europe.
They live in ocean water. During the winter, they move to land. The puffin lives between North America and Europe.

5 Behaviors Puffins eat small fish like sand eels and herring. They hunt these underwater. A puffin can stay under water for up to a minute in order to catch it’s prey (they usually only stay down for 30 seconds or less) A puffin can dive up to 200 feet deep in order to catch their prey.

6 Interesting facts A group of puffins is called a colony.
Puffins are excellent swimmers that stroke under water with their wings. Puffins can flap their wings 400 times per minute and fly at 55 miles an hour. A group of puffins is called a colony.
