There are over 250 possible health care careers. Each career has specific education requirements, job descriptions, and annual salaries earned

2 II. Training Levels Professional Technologist or therapist Technician
Doctors, Physicians Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants Nurses (RN, LPN) Technologist or therapist Technician Aide or assistant CNA

3 III. Education Requirements vary by program and state
High school preparation English, science, math, social studies, keyboarding Health science technology education (HSTE) Post-secondary education Vocational Training Community College University Types of degrees Associate’s Degree Bachelor’s Degree Master’s Degree Doctorate

4 IV. Certification, Registration, & Licensure
Purpose Ensure quality skill of health care worker Protects consumer/patient Certification States the person has fulfilled requirements of education and performance to qualify for an association or government agency. Registration Registry of qualified personnel in a given area. Licensure Government agency gives a person the authorization to work in a given occupation.

5 V. Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
Requirement to renew license or maintain certifications. Helps keep health care workers up to date new health care procedures or technology. Requirements vary between careers

6 VI. Exploring Health Care Careers
Therapeutic Services Careers Basic job description Use variety of treatments to help patients who are injured, physically or mentally disabled, or emotionally disturbed Direct treatment toward allowing the patient to function at maximum capacity See Table 2-2, page 30 and Table 2-14, p. 50

Review the list of Careers that fall in the Therapeutic Cluster Identify the 5 top 5 careers that interst you the most On a piece of notebook paper list them in order from highest interest to lowest interest Save that paper for tomorrow
