11/21/2018 Ways to Prevent Incidents Assign an effective EHS Rep Ensure PI Space Registration is up-to-date Training and Maintaining Safe Practices You and your researchers need to complete EHS training Discuss operational safety and near misses in lab group meetings Require written SOP’s for hazardous work and review them Maintain oversight of students’ activities Enforce personal protective equipment requirements Discourage students from working alone with hazardous materials or operations, PI sign-off required for UROP’s working alone Inspection Ensure EHS Rep is doing Level I inspections Ensure Level II inspection findings corrected
