Thoughts on Coexistence Lessons Learned Outline
August 2014 Thoughts on Coexistence Lessons Learned Outline Date: Authors: Notice: This document has been prepared to assist IEEE It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). The material in this document is subject to change in form and content after further study. The contributor(s) reserve(s) the right to add, amend or withdraw material contained herein. Release: The contributor grants a free, irrevocable license to the IEEE to incorporate material contained in this contribution, and any modifications thereof, in the creation of an IEEE Standards publication; to copyright in the IEEE’s name any IEEE Standards publication even though it may include portions of this contribution; and at the IEEE’s sole discretion to permit others to reproduce in whole or in part the resulting IEEE Standards publication. The contributor also acknowledges and accepts that this contribution may be made public by IEEE Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures < ieee802.org/guides/bylaws/sb-bylaws.pdf>, including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the TAG of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE TAG. If you have questions, contact the IEEE Patent Committee Administrator at Steve Shellhammer, Qualcomm Steve Shellhammer, Qualcomm

August 2014 Background IEEE 802 and 3GPP have exchanged several liaisons since the March IEEE 802 Plenary These liaisons can be found on the IEEE 802 web site, In the s between 3GPP and IEEE 802 it was suggested that IEEE 802 present at a future 3GPP meeting its “Lessons Learned” on Coexistence At the July Plenary meeting a number of people attended an meeting to discuss the 3GPP liaison and there was support at that meeting to develop a coexistence lessons learned (CLL) presentation The IEEE 802 chair asked that it be ready for consideration at the November IEEE Plenary Steve Shellhammer, Qualcomm

August 2014 Abstract The purpose of this presentation is to provide some thoughts on an outline for the CLL presentation and to stimulate some discussion on that topic There is interest in identifying volunteers who would like to contribute to portions of the CLL presentation Steve Shellhammer, Qualcomm

Potential Presentation Outline
August 2014 Potential Presentation Outline Introduction (Paul) Fundamental Assumptions about Coexistence (Steve) Coexistence Scenarios and Metrics Intrinsic MAC/PHY features and supplemental features design specifically for coexistence External capabilities being imposed by regulations which apply to coexistence Overview of IEEE (Steve and Nada?) Summary of coexistence methods in Coexistence Methods within MAC/PHY standards (Jim L., Adrian (11)?, Ron Murias (11), Ben (15), Apurva (22)?) Summary of intrinsic features of MAC/PHY standards that facilitate self-coexistence and/or general coexistence with other MAC/PHY systems Coexistence shown in Coexistence Assurance (CA) documents Overview of IEEE (Stanislav? and Hyunduk?) Summary of standard and how it leverages unique features of TVWS including location awareness and database accessibility Discussion of applicability of Coexistence Methods to LTE and 802 wireless systems Tabulate historical 802 coexistence methods and applicability to coexistence between LTE and 802 wireless systems Conclusions References Steve Shellhammer, Qualcomm
