19 Students need to keep in mind the following: Colleges want to see you taking challenging courses and at least 3-4 college prep courses per semester. These include your core classes. Students interested in MSU, U of M or similar colleges MUST have 4 or more college prep courses each semester of high school, including SENIOR year! Do not assume all dual enrollment classes count as college prep! Many colleges also want to see you take 2 years of the same foreign language. Students who waive the 2nd year to replace it with career center will do so at their own risk. Students interested in playing sports in a Division 1 or 2 college, must register with NCAA starting in 10th grade. There are strict requirements including certain approved classes, GPA and test scores. Students interested in Division 3, need to work with the college on their requirements. See Counseling website or NCAA for details.

20 Career Center students can earn embedded credit from their career center program if the regular class does not fit into their HH schedule. The credit is not awarded automatically!!!!! Caution: NCAA and many colleges will not accept embedded credit. To obtain embedded credit, you must fill out a form and have it approved by Mrs. Davis-Green. Embedded credits will show up on the transcript at the end of the school year. Deadline: Mar.27 Students will not be allowed to take cores classes on e2020 unless it is for credit recovery or if the class does not fit into your schedule. Select your alternate choices thoughtfully. If classes are full or if there are not enough students interested in a class to run it, we will pull from your alternates.

21 Dual Enrollment Students interested in dual enrollment, usually juniors and seniors, MUST attend a mandatory information meeting next week in order to dual enroll. Students must also meet the criteria to dual enroll including having at least a 3.0 GPA qualifying scores on the PSAT, SAT or ACT Your own transportation to the college for on campus classes Good attendance at HH Good attitude and work ethic Other important information will be covered in the mandatory meeting. Dual Enrollment Meetings: Wed. March 14 2nd hour Thurs. March 15 1st hour

22 JCEC: Jackson County Early College
NEW Program that allows students to earn both HS diploma and an associate’s degree at low cost. Same criteria as dual enrollment To make this happen, student schedules are very structured. Students complete a 13th year of high school Students can participate in graduation ceremony but do not get their diploma until the following year. Students in the 13th year must take a full credit of math related college courses to meet MMC requirement. Students in 13th year take all of their classes at JC. They can not participate in HS or college athletics during this year. Parent Information Meeting for 8th grade-11th grade Tuesday, March 13 at 7 pm at the HS

23 There will be NO changes made to course requests once it is submitted!
The ONLY schedule changes that will be allowed next year are for duplicate classes, missing hours, errors made by the computer, for credit recovery, for seniors for graduation purposes. Schedules will be sent home in the summer. Schedule corrections/changes for the entire year schedule MUST be done before the first day of school. There will be a short window for changes about 2 weeks before the 2nd semester ONLY for reasons listed above. NO exceptions! Seniors are strongly encouraged NOT to make schedule changes after submitting college applications unless for graduation purposes and approved by the college.

24 When you have submitted your course requests, you will need to print off the Course Request Sign off Page. If your Draft page comes up, this means your requests were not submitted. Go back and correct the errors and submit. Print off the Page that has the bar code on it. Then you and your parents should sign the form. Turn the form in to the counseling center in the designated spot or to the high school office by the deadline. Students who do not submit signed forms by the deadline will have their schedules created for them and they will not be able to make any changes.
