3 Figure 2 Since the launch of the website in April 2011, I-PASS curriculum downloads totaled 2,831 in the 50 states in the United States (a) and 643 in 57 other countries (b)—representing more than 500 unique institutions [non-inclusive of study sites]. 4 Figure 3 The individuals whose downloads are represented in Figure 2 indicated they intended to implement I-PASS across a range of (a) providers: physicians, 51%; nurses, 21%; medical students, 8%; and (b) settings: pediatrics, 18%; internal medicine, 17%; emergency medicine, 8%; surgery, 7%; and several others. 5 Figure 4 This figure depicts the organizational chart used for the Patient and Family Centered I-PASS Study. The project was overseen by a Coordinating Council, responsible for the oversight of the Scientific Oversight Committee (responsible for refinement of data collection methodologies and analyses), the Education Executive Committee (responsible for oversight of intervention development and implementation), and a team of champions from each participating institution. Each committee was supported by several subcommittees, each subcommittee addressing different measurement components and/or educational/implementation strategies. Patient/family representatives and nurses were integrated into all councils, committees, site teams, and subcommittees. In addition, multiple advisory groups offered content-specific expertise as needed throughout study execution. QI, quality improvement. 6 Figure 5 This figure depicts a sample organizational chart used for local I-PASS institutional implementation. The chart serves as a tool to faciliate organization of team members and delegation of leadership roles to ensure adequate oversight and implementation of all I-PASS Handoff Bundle components. CMO, chief medical officer; CMIO, chief medical information officer; DIO, Designated Institutional Official; IT, information technology; EHR, electronic health record; MOC, maintenance of certification.
