3 Literary Conflict Definition:
Any struggle between opposing forces; Usually the main character against some other force.

4 Literary Conflict- Two Types
•External – conflict that happens outside the character •Internal – conflict occurring on the inside; usually in the mind

5 4 Types of External Conflict
Man vs. Society Man vs. Man Man vs. Nature Man vs. Supernatural

6 Man vs. Society A character struggles against laws or beliefs of a group This includes characters that fight against or push back on the rules. Examples: The Hunger Games The Giver

7 Man vs. Man Characters will be opposed by the actions, reactions, or motivations of another character. Example: The Harry Potter Series A Series of Unfortunate Events

8 Man vs. Nature A struggle between a character and a force of nature such as a: fire, storm, earthquake, animal, etc. Example: Twister movie

9 Man vs Supernatural Conflict between a character and something abnormal such as ghosts, omens, superstitions. Example: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Dracula

10 1 Type of Internal Conflict Man vs. Self
A decision a character must make Affects their: actions, motivations, and interactions with other characters.
